Cloudstreet
By Tim Winton
Often referred to as "the great Australian novel", Cloudstreet is a post WWII yarn about two unlikely families that share a big house in Perth. Capturing the Aussie vernacular and psyche with casual ease, Winton transports you into the lives of these ordinary people who are basically giving life their best shot. A must read that will have you LOLing, and probably planning a picnic trip to the ocean.
Packed to the Rafters
Ok so I'm putting my body on the line here, but I have been known to like an episode of pttr. Actually, the acronym gave it away didn't it. I'm quietly a fan of this Australian suburban family values series. However I haven't seen any of the latest episodes. Think I got a bit sick of the characters. But whatevs.
Heartbreaker
By Ryan Adams
Raw and real. Here Mr Adams does what he does best.
"If you're feeling down," a guy in a pub once told me, "and you want to get feel even lower, then listen to some Ryan Adams."
Music for the brokenhearted. Worth every ounce of emotion it delivers and extracts.
Pilgrim's Progress
By John Bunyan
As the main character 'Christian' walks the road of salvation your heart will follow him: soaring to the heights of heaven and sinking into the gloomy shadows of evil. A book which engages the affections and helps embody the way to righteousness.
"Prick Bunyan anywhere and he will bleed Bible," CH Spurgeon.
