Wow. Whether this film worked or not all came down to Ryan Reynolds' performance. He nailed it.
Cortes manages to maintain the tension throughout this highly conceptual film, and boy, has Reynolds come a long way since the days of Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place...

It's been a while since I've seen a really strong Australian film, especially a genre film, but this one is right up there with the likes of Undead.
Byrne manages to slip effortlessly between horror and black comedy, and the performances are solid across the board. The whole thing also looks and sounds great, and there is no filler, no unnecessary scenes - everything adds to the story.
I really enjoyed The Loved Ones. 4/5.
