Possibly one of the most terrifying shows for parents that is currently on TV. It's grotty and dark but it also has some unexpectedly sublime moments. And, I enjoy the structure of a focus on a different character in each episode. It's good to be forced to get to know the characters you might otherwise find unappealing or incomprehensible.

Clever high school romance on one hand but also a very (personally) resonant exploration of one girl's boarding school experience. The riches! The temptations! The crippling lack of self-esteem!

Told from the perspective of a five-year-old boy who, due to his unusual home-life, has an unusual perspective on the world and an accelerated vocabulary. What's going on in this novel is heart-breaking but, because of the viewpoint, it also manages to be sweet and inspiring. A similar sort of impact to The Lovely Bones.

Wonderfalls

An ordinary, fairly apathetic girl starts seeing extraordinary things that motivate her to try interact more with the world. It's very whimsical and quite a nice post-teen coming of age type of story. Didn't last long on telly unfortunately so there's only the one short season on DVD.
