Tomorrow When The War Began

I really liked it. The book's always better, but the movie wasn't bad. The acting was better than I expected, and most of the actors were similar enough to what I had imagined that it didn't bug me. I'd definitely recommend it and I hope they make more.

Little Cloud

By The Whitlams

This is one of my favourite Whitlams albums. It's more mainstream than their earlier ones, but I just find the voice/piano combination irresistable. The first song "The Curse Stops Here" nearly always brings Tim to tears as he performs it, and is about a band member who committed suicide - it's sad, but a beautiful song. I like music performed by ther person who wrote it, and about topics they care about.

Kitchen Garden Cooking with Kids

By Stephanie Alexander

A great book of ideas for growing and cooking food with young children. Stephanie describes her journey of developing a school kitchen garden and cooking classes in a parimary school. I hope to be using many of the ideas in a few years time with my own girls.

Life is Beautiful

By Guido Orefice

This is one of my all-time favourite movies. It's funny and heart-warming as a loving Jewish father tries to protect his young son from realising the cruelties of WWII going on around him as they enter a Nazi concentration camp. Must be watched in Italian.

The Selected Works of TS Spivet

By Reif Larsen

I just finished this funny, light-hearted book, and I loved the way a 12 year old genius is portrayed - his brain mature in his abilities to grasp scientific concepts, and yet his childish viewpoints on the world and human relationships. Throughout the book he matures, sees the world less in black and white, and learns about how complex and multi-layered his parents and other adults are.
